i was thinking i could write, for my BA paper, about how frequent the different types of speech in japanese are in manga/anime... like "in this chapter/episode formal, informal, and x dialect were used". theoretically i'd pick an episode or volume from different series and just tally up the results.
i've never written a BA paper before or anything so i dunno if that's "too wide of a topic" or "not scientific enough" or something. i thought that i could tie it in to the textbooks we've used in class, as in "informal was the most frequent language type used but it isn't taught until textbook 3, 4th semester" etc. there's plenty of papers more or less vaguely about the different language used in anime/manga so i figured i can find some kind of supporting research.
luckily this pre-BA class seems like it'll be super easy. it meets once every 2 weeks on fridays at 16:00 japan time, which i can just barely make it home from school in time for i think (if not i'll have to find a quiet place to "go to class" to in the school). it's mostly just a ton of "find 10 sources for your future BA project and review them", aka lots of reading but not much real "work".
