been trying to cook some new stuff lately:

bought tallow for the first time, made french fries. at least we know it's healthy: my wife, who normally gets heartburn from any kind of french fry (even if it's using coconut oil), didn't get any from these. even though i double-fried them.

grocery store...

here's me

tried making nattou again, it failed. i think i didn't steam the beans long enough; i reaaaally need a pressure cooker so this kind of thing doesn't happen.

normally i pour my "choco" on top of the frozen bananas, this time i mixed it all in to make chocolate ice cream. turns out if you do it this way you eat a LOT less of it.

oven door broken. AGAIN!!!! you'd think that after 20 years of having a broken oven, my wife's parents would replace the oven. but nope!

made "bone broth soup" for the first time; you have to cook it for 10-24 hours so ideally you'd own a crockpot but we have no such thing. it's the fattiest soup i've ever had, you can FEEL that the fat is "healthy fat", and it really tastes like almost nothing (very weak meat taste); it doesn't taste "good" until you add enough salt. i also put in ginger and vegetables. the bone marrow is kinda like oysters in texture (again, basically tastes like nothing), it was my first time having marrow.
the fat from this is the same as the tallow and coconut oil: even after going out in the bright sun (with sunglasses) for a few hours, my eyes didn't end up hurting or get red. so for me, someone whose eyes normally hurt after even just 20-30 minutes out in the sun, "animal fat" and "coconut oil" are really miracle foods.

finally am getting the "COE" (certificate of eligibility), meaning the paper i have to have in order to get a VISA to go to japan. i got a PDF copy first and the school's EMS-ing me the real one; getting the VISA after that should only take around four days BUT it means i have to go IN PERSON and pick it up in STOCKHOLM which costs like $60 USD, excluding snacks and stuff...
...and then i have to do it all over again because we can only apply for my wife's VISA after we already have mine. we're going to call the embassy and see if they can't do something about that, because i really don't want to have to pay to go to stockholm twice.
