sick...
eyes, head hurt... throat hurts from coughing too much.... last night, throat + chest + joints hurt too... tried taking an asprin/ibuprofen/whatever but threw it up since it has sugar in it apparently... i managed to sleep like, maaaaybe 4 hours. my eyes hurt every time they move.

ate garlic, apple-cider vinegar, sweet potatoes, meat + tallow, kimchi, seemed to get slightly better every time i ate but now that i woke up and managed to make green tea, i've been feeling like i'm almost going to throw up the tea after i drink it.

worst thing is i had to cancel a luncheon at a japanese person's house, as well as 4 hours of work (btw the "leader", as opposed to the "shift manager" that's been giving me shifts the whole time, reworked the shift system and didn't include my name on the shift chart so i'm like, am i informally fired or is this just a mistake?), and might have to cancel going to a middle school on monday ;_;

Oh ugh, that sounds like influenza, minus the hurling.

IF you can find it there, Mucinex (I linked the extra-strength, but if you've got a lot of sinus dripping down the back of the throat, it might be easier getting the regular strength down) will help keep the sinus clearER - this will reduce headaches and eye pain due to sinus clogging.

Mucinex is my go-to every time I get the flu.

If Mucinex isn't available there, look for something with the active ingredient:
Guaifenesin

Body/joint pain, MIGHT be helped with painkillers, but you might find a decent vitamain B-complex to be helpful as well.

(I can deal better with the rest of the symptoms when my head/eyes aren't killing me. It may seem slightly masochistic, but it's really down to "I don't like a lot of OTC medications".)

Thanks, I'm mostly better (as of when I woke up an hour ago) now but man it was awful. I didn't have a problem with mucus and i could breathe through my nose and everything, the biggest problem was that it was like my forehead and jaw were super tense, to the point of making everything hurt, and then my eyes hurt when they moved even a little bit. And then the coughing.

I can't take anything that has sugar/glucose syrup in it, which usually means ALL medicine. I just throw it up after 10-30 minutes without it taking effect. But later I can go to the store and read the ingredients on their cold medicine...

There might be a Mucinex liquid with sugar, but the pills that I get don't list sugar, if that's any help.

Do you have issues with sugar in non-medicinal things? If so, might be worth tracking down if it's cane sugar or beet sugar - you might be allergic to either the cane or the beet, depending. Or, if you DON'T have issues with non-medicinal things having sugar, maybe it's to the coloring used in the medications, or one of the other inactive ingredients that just happens to be used in conjunction with sugar?

Or artificial sweeteners? A lot of what's over the counter here in the USA tends to use an artificial sweetener instead of sugar - no idea how prevalent that is overseas. I *do* have issues with one of the artificials, and I know people who become the poster child for "anger management issues" when they have something with aspartame.

(Just trying to think of the oddball things that might be at work.)

Full "inactive ingredients" list for Mucinex, both strengths:
carbomer homopolymer type b - FD&C blue #1 aluminum lake - hypromellose, USP - magnesium stearate, NF - microcyrstalline cellulose, NF - sodium starch glycolate, NF

This round of the flu that we're (finally!) starting to get over, he had the "waterfall sinuses" (always running, all the time) but I did *not* - which is a bit unusual, as we usually get what acts like the same strain.

I did, however, have headache, eye pain, and other assorted head pain spots that I've come to associate with stuffed sinuses. Apparently mine don't always have noticeable symptoms when they're clogged (yay...) so that's why I recommended the mucinex (or other Guaifenesin product) to try.

It's all man-made sugar (basically anything that's been boiled for days): cane sugar, beet sugar, birch sugar, glucose syrup, agave syrup, maple syrup, etc.

(Whoops, accidentally hit "send" before I was done writing!)

It's not just sugar either, it's basically all "synthetic" or "processed" foods (artificial food colourings, pasteurized milk, white flour) but the rate at which they affect me is a little different, like I throw up if I have sugar, I can have a little low-processed milk and won't throw up but I'll have nightmares and wake up a lot when sleeping. If I have caffeine or alcohol I'll get a stomachache for about 3 minutes and then be fine, but won't be able to sleep at all for the whole night.

Thanks, I'll try to look for it for next time!

You're welcome! :)

The sugar, milk and flour all have carby/starchy components (they're restricted or eliminated on both low carb AND no-mold-blah-blah diets). No idea if that helps you at all.

No clue on the artificial colorings, though! That's a new one on me!

I can eat potatoes and rice and stuff just fine. I can drink raw milk, but it's not sold in stores (I could find raw cheese in Sweden too). It's really just all the processing that my body can't handle. Since I cut out processed foods from my diet 3-4 years ago, I can't eat them anymore without bad side-effects.

Like for example, I can eat sausages with natural (intestine) casings but synthetic casings make me sleep badly.

Ahhhh, Ok, that makes a bit more sense then. Raw milk has "stuff" (because my just-got-up brain can't think of what they are) that normally is killed in the heat-pasteurization process.

:(

God, that sounds terrible. Maybe add blankets, for sleeping? I know sometimes when I'm sick I get really cold and it can make it even harder to sleep. (& as to tea, ginger is supposed to be really good for upset stomachs? & I like peppermint, too.)

I hope you feel better soon.
lusentoj[personal profile] lusentoj on December 9th, 2017 11:57 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I had like 5 blankets, also the heater, hot soup.... @.@ I didn't feel cold but I think the pain lessened with heat.

Man, I hope you feel better soon. :( Keep warm!
